Post your jobWhat to put in your job description
- What you need: panels replaced, posts fixed, a new fence, a gate, or a fence taken down.
- How long the fence is, how high, and what it is now: panels, close board, picket or post and rail.
- What is in the way: plants, a slope, a wall, a shed, or concrete around the old posts.
- Which side you can work from, and whether the neighbour knows.
- Whether you want wooden or concrete posts, and who takes away the old fence.
Don't put your name, phone number or address in the description: every trade who covers your area reads it. Your name, phone, email and address go only to the trades who take the job (3 at most).
Questions to ask before you hire
- Will you set new posts in concrete, or reuse the old ones?
- Does the price include taking away the old fence and the waste?
- Will you check for pipes and cables before you dig?
- Is the timber treated, and how long should it last?
- Do you have public liability insurance?
Registers and schemes to check
There is no legal register for fencers. Check your boundary before work: your title plan from HM Land Registry shows it roughly, and your deeds may say who looks after which fence. In England, a fence over 2 metres high, or over 1 metre next to a road, usually needs planning permission. Some fencers belong to TrustMark. We don't check this for you yet.
Your council in Nottingham
In England, a fence over 2 metres high, or over 1 metre next to a road, usually needs planning permission; a listed building or a conservation area may have other rules. For most of Nottingham that is Nottingham City Council; a postcode at the edge may be in a neighbouring council's area.
We take jobs from NG1, NG2, NG3, NG4, NG5, NG6, NG7, NG8, NG9, NG10, NG11, NG12, NG13, NG14, NG15, NG16, NG17, NG80, NG90 for Nottingham. Trades choose the districts they cover.

How many fencers get my details?
3 at most. Fencers who cover your area see the job first, without your name, phone, email or address. Only the first 3 who take it get your details, for this job only.
Which postcodes count as Nottingham?
We use the postcode districts of the Nottingham post town: NG1, NG2, NG3, NG4, NG5, NG6, NG7, NG8, NG9, NG10, NG11, NG12 and 7 more. Trades choose the districts they cover, and a job goes to trades who cover its district.
